Anaphora

Filippo Deorsola (piano, prepared piano)

Jonathan Ho Chin Kiat (double bass) Marco Luparia (drums, objects)

Queer pianist and composer Filippo Deorsola presents Anaphora, a piano trio that “switches and mixes different genres and rhythms in an incredibly controlled and enjoyable way” [Best of Jazz, USA]. The music embodies a practice in which non-European musical traditions are explored as rhythmic and timbral spaces that can subvert, reorient and open up the trio's interplay to unexpected grooves and surprising textures. It invites listeners into a fascinating exploration of sound.

It is rare to hear a trio that manages to mix different musical idioms — such as contemporary music, traditional jazz, radical improvisation and the song form — so skillfully in a unitary, single sound.
It is precisely the sonic research that constitutes the meaning of this work : a research full of energy and unexpected solutions that has the potential to glue the listener to his chair for the entirety of the Album.
